Revisiting the Magnification of Type Ia Supernovae with SDSS
We cross-correlate the sample of Type Ia supernovae from Riess et al. (2004) with the SDSS DR2 photometric galaxy catalogue. In contrast to recent work, we find no detectable correlation between supernova magnitude and galaxy overdensity on scales ranging between 1 − 10. Our results are in accord with theoretical expectations for gravitational lensing of supernovae by large-scale structure. Fut...
متن کاملThe Supernova Relic Neutrino Backgrounds at KamLAND and Super-Kamiokande
We calculate the Supernova Relic Neutrino (SRN) background flux for the KamLAND and Super-Kamiokande (Super-K) detectors, motivated by the reduction in background at Super-K and new results for the star formation history (e.g., from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS)). Our best estimate for the flux at Super-K is slightly below, but very close to the current Super-K upper limit. The Super-K up...
متن کاملSearch For Type Ia Supernova NUV-Optical Subclasses
In response to a recently reported observation of evidence for two classes of Type Ia Supernovae (SNe Ia) distinguished by their brightness in the rest-frame near ultraviolet (NUV), we search for the phenomenon in publicly available light-curve data. We use the SNANA supernova analysis package to simulate SN Ia-light curves in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Supernova Search (SDSS) and the Superno...
متن کاملTwo new AM Canum Venaticorum binaries from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey III
The AM Canum Venaticorum (AM CVn) binaries are a rare group of ultra-short period, masstransferring white dwarf binaries, some of which may be Type Ia supernova progenitors. More than a third of the total known population of AM CVn binaries have been discovered via the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). Here, we discuss our search for new AM CVns in the SDSS spectroscopic data base, and present t...
متن کاملThe rate of Type Ia supernovae at z ≈ 0.2 from SDSS-I overlapping fields
In the course of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS-I), a large fraction of the surveyed area was observed more than once due to field tiling overlap, usually at different epochs. We utilize some of these data to perform a supernova (SN) survey at a mean redshift of z = 0.2. Our archival search, in ∼5 per cent of the SDSS-I overlap area, produces 29 SN candidates clearly associated with host ga...
